A dream home for little Irfan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Long spacious halls with walls painted in multi-colours. Four years ago, a kid would use these words to describe his pretty home to his uncle, Shahul S. Now the kid is seven years old, doesn't speak, and sits still in a wheel chair occasionally moving his legs. The dream house of Irfan, the lone survivor of Karikakom school van tragedy has now become a reality.

The house-warming ceremony of 'Irfande Veedu' will be conducted on Sunday here at Jawahar Nagar, Karikakom.
With the collective contribution of the Mariyamma Ommen (wife of Oommen Chandy), Achu Ommen (daughter of Oommen Chandy), local business men and relatives the two-storeyed house in 1,000 sq ft has been constructed.
Moreover, G Anilkumar, the contractor has done his part by limiting the construction cost to Rs 15 lakh. The contractor said that most of the workers also compromised on their wages as it was done for their little Irfan.
"Irfan used to always express his need for a new and furnished house prior to the accident. Even in that age, he had a clear idea on how the house should be designed. We never expected to turn his dream into reality after the accident but happened with the help of the chief minister and his family and other well-wishers," said Shajahan A.
The hall of the house is built spaciously for carrying out walking exercise for Irfan. The house consists of three bedrooms, hall and a kitchen. Irfan who is under treatment since his accident has improved from the vegetative stage. The boy can now move his limbs. His face sometimes gleams with expressions. His parents said that he reacts to the some colours and casual talks. Sticking to the limitations, Irfan had expressed his excitement when described about his new house. Presently, Irfan is going treatment, acupressure therapy under the guidance of Dr Sam John.

"The improvement in his health has roused our expectation. Atleast he will be happy to see such a house when he comes back to normal," said Shajahan.
Irfan was saved from the tragedy which occurred in 2011. The school van had toppled into the Parvathy Puthanar and the murky waters caused infection which left him paralysed and confined to the wheelchair.
A function will be held at the house at 11am following a prayer. Mariyamma Oommen will be present.
